1987: Consultations with Community Leaders
Interacted with community leaders of the townships to the North of Pretoria (Tshwane) in the province of Gauteng, South Africa, concerning the aspirations, needs and development plans of their communities and the potential for supportive involvement. Establishing relationships for future cooperation.
1988: Acquired Property
Acquired a strategically situated 30 Ha property. Rezoning of the property to accommodate the activities envisaged in the vision.
1989: Registration as non profit organisation
Registration with the relevant authorities as a non profit organisation. Directors appointed - representing the community. First training course involving youth leaders.
1991: Registration of school
Registration of school with the Education Department of the state. Upgrading of a cattle enclosure to serve as first (and temporary) school building.
1992: School opened
Intake of the first 100 learners in the school (grade 1-6)
1994:
A donation of 2100 sq m of prefabricated buildings.
First home for destitute children opened. Registration with the Department of Welfare.
1995:
Construction of the first six premanent general purpose lecture room with ablutions.
Registration of our Early Learning Centre.
Establishing of a fruit orchard with 50 nut trees and 80 guava trees.
1999:
First external senior certificate results with 100% pass and 78% university exemption.
Opening of a second home for destitute children.
2002:
Major planning exercise involving architects, quantity surveyors, engineers (electrical, civil, sewerage) and educational experts. Preparation of a proposal for development and funding of extensions and improvements (available on CD).
2003:
Construction of storeroom block. Upgrading of temporary buildings to permanent lecture facilities.
2004:
Pilot project for skills training and income generation, involving inhabitants of Winterveldt informal settlement. Procurement of a sewing contract for 40 succesfull course attendees.
2005:
Intake of 50 children from the informal settlements on a bursary scheme (scholarship) as learners into the school. The school carried the full financial burden for their education, including transport, tuition, uniforms and school feeding. Donation of 33 computers received.
2006:
The Early Learning Centre had grown to 50 children, the school to 450 learners; two homes were catering for ten children; seventy children were assisted through the bursary scheme; the school had established a proud record of 100% pass rate in the senior certificate examiations over the past seven years, saluting its first batch of university graduates, among them a medical doctor and B.Sc, B.Com, B. Tech and Technikon diplomates.
2007:
Another 100% matriculation pass in the external Senior Certification Examination. The fourth time in 9 years that one of our students was accepted for medical studies at a university.
2008:
All facilities were filled to maximum capacity. An urgent need was identified for the development of capacity, and a Marketing Director was appointed. The school was provisionally accredited until 2010 by UMALUSI, the Quality assessor watch dog of South Africa.
