Welcome to the "news and views" on our new web site!
Africa, south of the Sahara, is experiencing a period of intense turmoil ? the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; an ever escalating power struggle in Zimbabwe; floods in Mozambique; floods of refuges crossing borders, and of late, violence against foreigners in South Africa
From Central Africa comes the saying: ?When two elephants fight, the grass gets hurt?. Inevitably, it is the poor, the young, the women and children who suffer most.
The vision of Tshwane Community Learning Centre is to support hurting communities through education, skills training, child care and income generation in their endeavor to satisfy basic needs
We are intensifying our marketing efforts to enlarge and improve facilities and programs and to keep our fees (where applicable) at a level which will ensure accessibility to the poor. The communities served do not have the financial ability to contribute to the development of facilities.
The quality of program and services are maintained through a ongoing process of internal and external monitoring. Externally, we are quality controlled by UMALUSI (the state Quality Control Institute for education); our financial management system is audited annually by a state approved auditing firm with financial reports being submitted to the Board of directors, stakeholders and the state Department of Education (DeO) which also conducts regular inspections to monitor teaching and administration. An annual report is required by the Department of Social Services of the state on our PBO programs.
We are affiliated to the Independent Examination Board of South Africa (IEB) which is recognized to be of the highest quality in South Africa. Our ex students are doing well - five of them having chosen a career as medical practitioners. One has completed his studies and has recently been accepted at a university for specialization studies in neurosurgery. Three of the five were recipients of study bursaries from the school.
The financial support program for destitute and less privileged children has been expanded. At present seventy children are benefiting (this constitutes 14% of the enrollment of the school).
A quote from one of South Africa?s most prominent businessmen: ?In this country no one can sleep peacefully while someone goes to bed hungry?
